JOB TITLE:           Medical Assistant – Front/Back Office                                                          

HOURS OF WORK:  
Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm (Hours may vary according to patient scheduling)

WAGE: Dependent upon experience and qualifications.
                                               
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for front or back office duties which may include; answering phone, scheduling patients, referrals, billing, triaging patients, rooming patients, assist provider with exams, process prescription refills, patient follow-up and processing of appropriate patient paperwork.

 

PRINCIPLE JOB DUTIES:

  • Schedule appointments by phone or in person.

  • Handle patient notifications.  

  • Triage patients.

  • Process patient referrals, lab requests, etc.

  • Process prescription refills.

  • Prepare exam rooms.

  • Room patients, take vitals and complete patient intake forms.

  • Administer injections.

  • Assist provider with exams.

  • Proper processing of patient paperwork.

  • Provide support to team members in providing excellent patient care.

  • Demonstrate safe work practices.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned.                                                                    

                                                                                                                                                             
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Medical Assistant experience preferred, certified or non-certified.

  • Minimum of 1 year provider office experience preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY:  Under the direction of a physician and utilizing the nursing process provides perioperative nursing care at a professional level. Performs a variety of nursing procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative. Assumes responsibility for designated areas of procedures as required. Licensed personnel will practice only within their scope of practice.

SIGNIFICANT DUTIES:

A.  Patient Care

  1. Assess patients throughout perioperative period establishing appropriate documentation on nursing record.

  2. Start IVs and administer medications ordered by physician, instituting appropriate patient monitoring techniques.

  3. Prepare patients for procedures through explanation, patient positioning, pre-operative surgical scrub and draping as needed.

  4. Provide post anesthesia/analgesia care to patients utilizing appropriate PACU standards.

  5. Provide emotional support as appropriate to perioperative patients and family.

  6. Know how to gather required instruments, supplies and equipment for procedures.

  7. Know how to operate and do limited maintenance on day surgery equipment.

  8. Assist physicians as needed.

  9. Know how to set up and maintain a sterile field.

  10. May be responsible for specific areas of teaching of personnel.

  11. Other duties as assigned.

B. Administrative Responsibilities

  1. Maintain adequate records as directed.

  2. Maintain orderliness and cleanliness.

  3. Cooperate with all personnel in the proper conduct of the dept.

  4. Rotate within the department as required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
  • Must be licensed by the state of Oregon to practice Nursing.
  • ACLS training within three months of hire date.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Lab Manager and Anti-Coag Medical Director the Nurse is responsible, in conjunction with providers, for co-managing patients on anticoagulation therapy utilizing a protocol driven policy.  The Nurse must be independently proficient in patient health education, patient assessment, and management regarding anticoagulation therapies which include: Wafarin, Lovenox, Fragmin and any new anticoagulation medications that may be released for administration to the patient.  The Nurse is responsible for demonstrating clinical competence of applied physiology and pathophysiology of thromboembolic disorders and applied pharmacology of antithrombotic agents. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • To elicit critical patient information about anticoagulation status and factors potentially affecting anticoagulation status.

  • Analyze patient information and laboratory data.

  • Selects and follows appropriate Warfarin dosing protocol, upon orders from PCP.

  • Recognizes patient circumstances and lab data which required referral and communication to PCP.

  • Triages patient problems during clinic visit.

  • Assume responsibility for arranging patient follow up and identified problems.

  • Determines frequency of patient visit based on patient information and lab test results.

  • Initiates contact with appropriate home health agencies to arrange patient care at the approval of the anticoagulation Medical Director or PCP.

  • Watches for and recognizes symptoms of GI or GU bleeding and initiates appropriate referrals, based on perceived urgency.

  • To assess risk of bleeding and thrombosis or embolus in a patient, using clinical information, taking a history and evaluating laboratory data. Contact PCP or anticoagulation Medical Director as needed.

  • Recognizes unusual responses to Warfarin dose regulation and contacts attending anticoagulation Medical Director or PCP.

  • To be responsible for reporting adverse incidents involving oral anticoagulation, and assisting with investigation wherever possible.

  • Teaches patients and families about Warfarin risks, benefits and precautions.

  • Engages patients and families about Warfarin risks, benefits and precautions.

  • Records all pothrombin time results, anticoagulation dose, return visits and telephone interactions in clinic EHR. Sends copy of results to PCP in a timely manner or at intervals requestsed by the PCP.

 

EDUCATION/LICENSURE:
Must be licensed by the state of Oregon to practice nursing

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Evidence of working knowledge of nursing process and the possession of basic clinical skills.
Ability to work compatibly with providers, patients and other staff.
